Chicago Return Gives Vegas Hope for 2021

We're excited for the revival of Las Vegas' live entertainment

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees—now entering their 54th year as a band—returns to The Venetian Theatre for a three-show limited engagement on September 15, 17 and 18.

The shows are Chicago’s first on the Strip since March 2020, and the band’s pending return is more than a welcome relief for entertainment-starved Las Vegas, which has seen concerts and conventions canceled and numerous entertainment venues shuttered for nearly a year. The shutdowns caused by the pandemic have forced thousands out of work and driven the city’s unemployment rate to 11.5 percent—the highest in the U.S. among large metro areas.

For a city that’s used to headlining announcements such as this once every week, and sometimes multiple times a day, living without the allure of Hall of Fame acts and other live entertainment takes a lot of time getting used to. In the four years that Chicago has performed at The Venetian, Las Vegas has hosted dozens of high caliber and award-winning headliners, from Foreigner to Def Leppard to Lady Gaga, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Christina Aguilera, Carlos Santana, and others.

Increased COVID-19 vaccinations, especially among older Americans, could speed up Las Vegas’ recovery and bring more headliners back, although current conditions are expected to last at least through the first half of 2021, economists say.

If that prediction holds true, the city can at least point to the latter half of 2021 for signs of hope, and Chicago might just be the catalyst for the comeback. Tickets to the band’s upcoming concerts go on sale January 29 via Ticketmaster and The Venetian website

Imagine The Venetian Theatre crowd with people dancing, laughing, and maybe even a man selling ice cream while singing an Italian song.
