Film Critic Josh Bell’s Picks for Oscars Best Screenplay

????  ???? ????  Off the Strip’s movie reviewer and local film critic, Josh Bell, reviews the nominees for the Oscars Best Screenplay award on KTNV 13 Las Vegas. The nominees are: “Judas and The Black Messiah,” “Minari,” “Promising Young Woman,” “The Sound of Metal,” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7.”

Bell says he found Aaron Sorkin’s screenplay of “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” most enjoyable, despite the backlash Sorkin often receives “for applying his quippy witticisms to actual historical figures,” and noted that Lee Issac Chung’s writing on “Minari” is strong and “a better representation of a screenplay actually being original.”

However, he predicts that the likely winner will be “Promising Young Woman.” He says Emerald Fennell delivers a “twisty” performance, but describes the screenplay as “ultimately empty.”

Watch Bell discuss his take on the nominees for Best Adapted Screenplay in the “Bell Breakdown” below.
