Can You Smoke on the Las Vegas Strip?

[addtoany]

When people come to Las Vegas whether by foot, car, or through the Harry Reid Airport, they tend to leave all their inhibitions at the door. People let loose on the dance floor, others spend way too much at the slots, and some light up a cigarette for the first time in ages. That said, there are rules. So when people ask if you can smoke on the Las Vegas Strip, the short answer is yes.

Smoking is allowed in public, outdoor spaces on the Las Vegas Strip. When you head inside or in outdoor spaces owned by a business, that’s when it gets a little more complicated.

The Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act was designed to protect people from secondhand cigarette smoke and the aerosol from electronic cigarettes and vaping products. It was originally written into law in 2006 but has been revised at both the 2011 and 2019 legislative sessions. Ultimately, what the Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act means for casinos, is that allowing smoking is the properties prerogative, but only in the areas of the casino where minors are prohibited.

On the casino floor?

A few of the casino floors with non-smoking sections include Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Resort & Casino, Mirage Las Vegas and MGM Grand Hotel & Casino.

Some notable ones include Bellagio Hotel & Casino, Caesars Palace, Venetian, The STRAT Hotel, Casino & SkyPod, Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Resort & Casino, Tropicana Las Vegas.

At a bar or tavern on the Las Vegas Strip?

If it’s in your resort, no. However, if it is a stand-alone bar or tavern and only those ages 21 and up are allowed in, you might be able to. It would be up to the business owner to determine the rules of the establishment.

What if I’m not talking about cigarettes?

How about a cigar?

Unless noted otherwise, if you are allowed cigarettes, you will probably be allowed cigars. Cigars provide a rather distinct scent though, so some passerby’s may not be happy with the looming cigar smoke while others prefer it to that of cigarettes. The best place to enjoy a cigar will arguably be one of the Las Vegas Strip’s many cigar lounges.

Can I vape?

You’ll find that vape laws are typically inline with those of cigarettes. That said, ask if you aren’t sure as each property you visit may have different rules.

What about marijuana?

One thing there is no shortage of in Las Vegas is dispensaries. That means it’s legal to purchase marijuana, but where are you supposed to smoke it? You can’t do it outside on the strip and not in the casinos. The dispensaries aren’t even allowed to host consumption lounges on-site. Your only real option as a tourist is making friends with a local and hoping they invite you over.

What you can do, is opt for edibles and non-smoke varieties instead.

Options to smoke may be in the near future, but they aren’t here yet. Mega-dispensary, Planet 13, already has plans for an impressive cannabis lounge complete with pool and outdoor balcony space.

Planet 13 is located at:
2548 W Desert Inn Rd
Suite 100
Las Vegas, NV 89109

They are open 24-hours a day.
