The History of ARIA Resort & Casino
ARIA, which is the tallest structure in the formerly-named CityCenter complex, opened on the Las Vegas Strip in 2009, as a joint venture between MGM Resorts International and Infinity World Development.
The 3.8-million-square foot property features two curvilinear glass towers, which houses more than 4,000 rooms, including Forbes Five Star Sky Suites, casual and fine dining restaurants, bars and lounges, a vibrant nightclub, spa and salon, three pools, a gaming floor with many gambling options and 500,000 square feet of convention space for meetings and events.
While there are plenty of places to stay on the Strip, ARIA is considered the most technologically advanced hotel ever built and the largest hotel in the world to have earned LEED Gold certification.
So many things have come and gone over the years, but ARIA is still standing as one of the most sought-out places to stay and visit on the Las Vegas Strip.
In September 2021, MGM Resorts International closed on a sale-leaseback deal with Blackstone Group, which acquired ARIA and Vdara for $3.89 billion.
The Resort
Rooms and Suites
This award-winning hotel features more than 4,000 guest rooms and suites with many luxury amenities, including in-room tablets where you can order from restaurants, book services and control everything from the temperature to turning off unused lights and electronics.
The deluxe king and queen rooms, which are about 520 square feet, offer fabulous city and Las Vegas Strip views, floor-to-ceiling windows and high-tech features. Stay Well deluxe rooms are also an option. Upgrade to a Resort Club Lounge room, with perks such as a daily social hour, concierge assistance and business services.
Tower Suites range from a 920-square-foot Corner Suite Strip View room to a 2,000-square-foot Executive Hospitality Suite. There are also Forbes Five Star Sky Suites which offer incredible views, spacious floor plans, Sky Suites Lounge access, luxury airport transportation and a personal concierge.

The West Convention Center and East Convention Center feature more than 500,000 square feet of space for meetings, events and large conventions.
Ballrooms
ARIA offers many ballrooms across three levels that can cater to any type of event. One of the largest ballrooms is the Bristlecone Ballroom, which can accommodate up to 5,100 guests.
Meeting Rooms
There are three levels of meeting rooms, ranging from 800 to 5,400 square feet. Meeting rooms are perfect for breakout rooms or office spaces and come equipped with built-in projection systems, drop-down projection screens and electronic control panels. Other options include an executive lounge, verandas and an 8,000-square-foot outdoor space that connects both convention centers.
Boardrooms
The two boardrooms offered are perfect for high-level business meetings and fit up to 24 people.
Pools
There are three pools, including the adults-only Liquid Pool Lounge. Plus, Pool Bar, which offers light fare and drinks while lounging poolside.
Cabanas and Daybeds
Cabanas offer plush seating, poolside Wi-Fi access, TVs, personalized service and luxurious amenities for large groups. Daybeds are perfect for one or two guests and give you the comfort of having reserved seating so that you can come and go while at the pool.
Dayclubs
Liquid Pool Lounge, located on the 2nd Level Promenade, is one of the hottest dayclubs during the pool season. Pool days typically run from March to October. The adult-only dayclub features two VIP pools, chaise lounges, daybeds and private cabanas with special guests and live DJs.
Parking
ARIA offers a self-parking garage that can be accessed from Las Vegas Boulevard, with the first hour of parking free for non-locals and the first three hours free for locals. After that, rates range between $15 and $18.
Gold, Platinum and NOIR MGM Rewards members receive free parking.
Transportation
Rideshare through Uber is offered on-site, with drop-off at the main entrance and pick-up at the lower level of the north valet lobby. Shuttles and limousine services are available for airport transportation. There’s also the ARIA express tram.
Valet parking at the hotel is another option. Valet rates range between $30 to $35 for hotel guests and $21 to $35 for non-hotel guests.

How Rewards are Calculated
In the long run, the house keeps a piece of every dollar a gambler puts at risk in a casino. That’s why employees at Las Vegas casinos are happy to offer rewards to loyal gamblers. Comps are based on the average dollar amount a player is expected to lose each day, known as average daily theoretical or ADT. It’s unrelated to how much you actually win or lose.
To calculate your ADT at a table game, the pit boss observes your play. They follow the same formula the casino uses to calculate Rewards Points. ADT is determined by the type of game you’re playing, your average bet and how long you stay at the table. In the end, the casino comes up with a dollar figure representing how much it expects you to lose each day, and comps you around 20% to 30% of that amount.

How to get More Comps
Playing slots or video poker is the fastest way to earn MGM Rewards Points. You can’t get points without a players card, but there are still times it’s best not to use one. Primarily, when you don’t plan to gamble long or invest much money. Pretend you put $1000 into play on Saturday, then in a rush to catch your flight the next day, you can’t resist tapping the spin button a few more times. Do that and the high rating you earned Saturday will plummet. In situations like this, go ahead and play Sunday, just don’t use your players card.
It may take some of the fun out of gambling, but you’ll earn the most comps by draining your entire bankroll for the trip in one day at one casino. Gambling $600 on the same day earns a player a higher rating and more comps than betting $200 in chips each day for three days.

Slot Tournaments

At slot tournaments, such as the ones at ARIA, players can be seen furiously pressing the spin button as fast as possible without the fear of going broke. The entry fee is typically not more than $100, but high-stakes slot tournaments aren’t hard to find. Several years ago, five Strip hotels including ARIA held a slot tournament with a $5000 buy-in and a $2 million prize pool. Some tournaments are open to the public, while others can only be entered with Rewards Points. Only invited guests of the casino are permitted to participate in many of the slot tournaments at ARIA and other casinos.
Players are given a set amount of time to play through a certain number of credits. They compete against each other, and the one who has amassed the most coins when the tournament is over wins. Slot tournaments are known to award huge cash prizes.
The outcome of a slot tournament is largely out of your control, but there are a few things you can try to improve your performance. Start by getting plenty of rest. The competition will take more concentration than you realize. Arrive at the tournament location early and avoid caffeine and liquids. Caffeine can make you crash, and a bathroom break will cost you the tournament. Keep your eyes off the scoreboard and enjoy the game.
Blackjack
The object of the game is to beat the dealer by coming closest to 21 without busting. The hand begins when the player bets and is dealt two cards face up in 6-deck games and higher. The dealer gets one card face down, known as a hole card, and one face-up. The player totals his cards and decides whether to hit or stand. Some hands are worth an added investment. In that case a player can double down by placing a second bet next to his first and taking one, and only one, additional card.
A player has the option to split when he’s dealt two equal cards. He starts by giving the dealer a hand signal and placing a second bet. This prompts the dealer to separate the player’s cards and deal two new ones to make two hands. If it’s an option, the player can also surrender his hand and get half his bet back. Once the player’s turn is complete, the dealer turns his hole card over and has the option to hit or stand. The dealer always hits until he reaches 17 or busts. Dealer has to stand on 17, and whoever has the highest hand without going over 21 wins.
ARIA has 32, 6-deck blackjack tables with betting limits of $25 to $10,000. Blackjack pays 6:5 on most tables at the ARIA. The High-Limit Lounge has two, 2-deck tables that pay 3:2 and dealer stands on soft 17.
Craps
There’s no shortage of games going on at ARIA. The casino has 10 craps tables with $10 to $10,000 betting limits.
Have you ever wondered why craps players are always in the mood for fun? There’s a reason.
To begin with, craps is a social game and most of the time, the players are genuinely enjoying each other’s company. As an even bigger factor, most players bet together, so when the shooter rolls a winning number, they all get paid. That’s why you shouldn’t be surprised if you hear some commotion coming from the nearest craps game. After all, a table of winners is worth cheering over.
To play, bet the Pass Line or Don’t Pass Line. Ninety-percent of players bet the Pass Line, or with the shooter. They win when they roll a seven or 11 on the first roll of the dice, called the Come Out roll. Players who bet the Don’t Pass Line, or against the shooter, lose when he wins and win when he loses.
If the shooter rolls a two, three or 12, known as craps, the Pass Line Bettors lose. The Don’t Pass Line bettors win on a two or three and tie on a 12. Any other number becomes the point. Roll that number again without rolling a seven to win the round. Additional betting opportunities become available when a point is established.
Roulette
Betting on a single number on a roulette table is a long shot, but if you win, the payout is worth celebrating. A bet on a single number, or a straight bet, pays 35:1. So, if you make a $10 straight bet and win, you get your $10 back along with an additional $350. A split bet covers two adjacent numbers. Get paid 17:1 when one hits. Bets on zero, numbers or groups of numbers are called inside bets, and have unfavorable odds.
Outside bets have insanely better odds at slightly under 48%. They are red/black, even/odd and one to 18, 19 to 36. The disadvantage to these more conservative bets is that because your chance of winning is higher, the payout is only even money. Still, pros recommend sticking to outside bets and walking away when you’re ahead.
You can only find single-zero, or European Roulette, in upscale casinos such as ARIA. European Roulette has better odds than other roulette games. The wheel only has 37 pockets, instead of the 38 on a double-zero wheel. With a 2.7% house edge, a European Roulette wheel offers significantly better odds than a double-zero wheel with a 5.26% house edge.
ARIA has two European Roulette wheels, seven double-zero wheels and three triple-zero wheels. A triple-zero roulette wheel has a massive 7.69% house edge.
Baccarat
Only a baccarat player can win with the worst hand. That’s because baccarat is a guessing game. A player simply needs to pick the winner—not be the winner—to succeed. The choices are the player, the banker and tie. Ten – king are worth zero in baccarat and an ace is equivalent to one.
Predicting the winner is the only decision a baccarat player must make. The player and the banker are each dealt two cards face-up. If either hand totals eight or nine, it’s a winner, and if both equal that number it’s a tie. When neither totals eight or nine, the banker consults the rule book to provide the player’s next move. The winning hand is the one that comes closest to nine.
Mini-baccarat is a smaller-stakes version of the original. It’s played on a smaller table and has a few of its own rules, but the game doesn’t change. In baccarat, players can pick up their cards and take turns being the banker, but not in mini-baccarat. Only the dealer is allowed to touch the cards in this interpretation of the game.
ARIA has four mini-baccarat tables with a $25 minimum bet and $10,000 maximum.
Pai Gow Poker
Have you ever seen a player make a royal flush? Now imagine a player making a royal flush and losing. It can happen in Pai Gow Poker, where five of a kind is the top ranking hand.
You may be thinking it’s not possible to make five of a kind, but in Pai Gow, the deck has 53 cards. The extra card is a joker that can be used as an ace or to complete a straight or flush. A player has five of a kind when he draws four aces and a joker. The value of a wheel, an ace – five straight, skyrockets in Pai Gow Poker. The lowest straight in Texas Hold’em, the wheel is the second highest in this poker variant, only behind 10 – ace.
Player and banker each get seven cards to make two poker hands. The five-card hand has to out rank the two-card hand. Win when your two hands beat the banker’s hands. The majority of the time, player and banker will each win one hand and the result will be a push. For this reason, as well as the relatively slow-pace of the game, Pai Gow Poker tends to offer players more game time for their money. ARIA has three Pai Gow Poker tables with limits of $15 -10,000.
Pai Gow
An ancient Chinese betting game, Pai Gow is played with a set of 32 tiles that are split into 16 pairs. The oldest game still played in the casino, Pai Gow is believed to date back to around the 12th century. The idea is the same as Pai Gow Poker, where the player and banker each make two hands and the best two win, though most end in a tie. The players and the dealer take turns acting as the banker. Four tiles are dealt to each player and the banker, which are then split into low and high hands.
If the player’s two hands are better than the banker’s two, he gets paid even money, less a 5% commission. The Pai Gow table at ARIA has $15 – 10,000 limits, but if the casino is busy, the minimum will be higher.
Three Card Poker
Beat the dealer when your three card hand of poker outranks his. Rankings are much the same as in traditional Hold’em, except in Three Card Poker, three of a kind beats a straight and a straight beats a flush. It only takes three cards to complete a straight or flush in Three Card Poker. There is an element of skill involved in the game, but strategy is simple.
The action begins when the player places a wager on the ante and has the option to make a pair plus side bet. Three cards are dealt to the player and the dealer. Once they seen their hand, the player can raise and make a play bet equal to the size of his ante, or fold and forfeit his ante bet. When they raise, the hand proceeds to showdown. If the dealer doesn’t have a queen or higher, the ante bet pays and the play bet is returned. Otherwise, whoever has the higher three card poker hand wins both bets. A $15 minimum bet is required at the three, Three Card Poker tables at ARIA.
Ultimate Texas Hold’em
Ultimate Texas Hold’em is a game of skill that requires a player to think not only of their hand, but of what two cards their opponent is holding. They need to have a good idea when they’re ahead, and know when to bet and how much.
The house edge in Ultimate Texas Hold’em is around 2.185%. That means if you place a $100 chip in the ante circle, you should expect to lose $2 and 18.5 cents per bet in the long run. When you take a player with optimal strategy and factor in all bets, not just the ante, the house edge drops to just over half a percent. Free strategy charts can be found at Wizard of Odds.
Players make two equal bets in the ante and blind circles, and an optional trips bonus side bet to start the game. The dealer and players are dealt two cards each, and five community cards are laid face down on the felt. Each player looks at his cards and decides whether to check or raise by making a play bet. In this spot, a player can raise 3x to 4x his ante bet. He can only raise once, and this is the biggest one he’ll be allowed to make.
Next, the first three community cards are turned over and it’s the player’s turn again to check or raise 2x his ante bet this time. On the last betting round raises are limited to the same size as your ante bet. The final two cards are revealed and the player’s only options are to fold or raise.
Once the betting rounds are complete, the dealer and the player reveal their hands. The dealer needs at least a pair or the ante bet is returned. Your other bets are dependent on beating the dealer. His cards are compared with the player’s and the best five-card poker hand wins. The casino floor at Aria has three Ultimate Texas Hold’em tables with $15 – $10,000 betting limits.
Casino War
This fast-paced card game first made its way into Nevada casinos in the mid 90’s.
The player simply places a wager with the option to make a side bet on a tie. The player and the dealer are each dealt one card, high card wins. In the case of a tie, the player can surrender and lose half his bet or double his bet and go to war. At war, player and dealer are each dealt an additional card. The best possible outcome is a tie, which pays the player even money on his double wager. Their original bet is returned and they collects an even money payout on his “war” wager when his second card ranks higher than the dealer’s. The player loses both bets when the dealer’s second card ranks the highest.
Limits are $10 – $10,000 at the Casino War table at ARIA.
Poker Room
A favorite among pros, expect to wait for a seat at one of the 24 tables at ARIA’s Poker Room. Eighteen are on the main floor, and five elevated tables are reserved for high-limit games. Some of the world’s highest-limit games are played at the single table in the Ivey Room, named after Phil Ivey who many believe to be the best poker player alive. ARIA has daily tournaments and round the clock cash games.
