The History of Delano

Mandalay Resort Group built a 43-story tower that featured 1,117 guest suites. Connected to the Mandalay Bay Resort, the doors of THEhotel at Mandalay Bay opened in December 2003. The hotel opening allowed guests to stay in standard suites measuring at 725 square feet, the largest in Vegas at the time.

A new restaurant and lounge, Mix, opened on the 43rd floor in late 2004. There was seating for 240 guests who were able to view the Strip through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The lounge featured an outdoor patio. This same year, the Bathhouse Spa was opened.

In 2006, the name was shortened to simply THEhotel to help the tower be its own property. Perceived as another hotel at Mandalay Bay, president and COO Chuck Bowling wanted Delano was to evoke its “own spirit, own energy.”

The following decade set Delano apart in its own rite. In 2011 the property became one of the very first hotels on the Strip to allow dogs in the suites. In 2012, THEhotel was rebranded into today’s Delano Las Vegas. All suites were redesigned, while new bars, nightclubs, lounges and restaurants were incorporated. TheHotel signs were removed in June 2014 and new signs for the new name went up two months later. A groundbreaking ceremony for Delano was held in September of 2014. Actress Jaime King and Charlotte Ronson attended the grand opening party and DJ Samantha Ronson kept the music spinning. There was also a performance by Magic.

During the same year, Delia’s Kitchen opened, providing a maximum capacity of 140 guests. A greenhouse was built to provide fresh herbs for the menu, while the 3940 Coffee bar was opened in the lobby. The penthouses were the last for a facelift, which was completed around October 2014.

2015 saw the opening of the Delano Beach Club. Comprised of 16 cabanas and poolside amenities such as free food and drink, and onsite DJS twice a week, the beach club was also available for non-guests who rented a cabana.

The end of the rebranding process occurred during the winter of 2015. Mix Restaurant was replaced with Rivea Restaurant and Skyfall Lounge. Delano was now its own entity, no longer to be mistaken as the hotel at Mandalay Bay.

The result of the rebranding allows guests to be surrounded by “gold level” treatment. As the outer walls of the building display, gold is the standard at the Delano. A golden hue outer appearance leads to equally bright and welcoming interiors. The casual yet inviting atmosphere welcomes guests to a stay filled with luxury beds, spa-inspired bathrooms and breathtaking views.

Guests of Delano have access to the Delano Beach Club as well as two other beach clubs in very close proximity.

The Delano Beach Club is far from just being a pool. It is an exclusive pool club just for resort guests and features whimsical inclusions such as a submerged chess board, a variety of signature cocktails and plenty of cabanas and chaise lounges. The cabanas have tons of amenities including personal safes, poolside Wi-Fi, towel service, pool inner tubes, couch, music docking station, a fridge and a TV along with a handful of lounge chairs.

Order poolside from Delano Bites and cool off with a spirit from their beer and wine list. Take in a seasonal fruit bowl, garlic hummus or a smoothie bowl. For something a bit more savory, try the pulled pork sliders, the guacamole or buffalo chicken dip.

Mandalay Bay Clubs

Wanting more sun, surf and specialty drinks? A few steps lead to the sandy shores of Mandalay Bay Beach and the adults-only Moorea Beach Club. Two additional beach clubs that provide relaxation, fun under the sun and paradise-like getaways. There are plenty of lounging options throughout the three properties: rentable bungalows, day beds, cabanas and personalized villas.

Moorea Beach Club

Moorea Beach Club is an adults-only, over-21 experience. Experience complete relaxation and joyful downtime in this welcoming pool.

This beach club offers a sophisticated, private and upscale experience. After taking a dip in the heated pool, let the sun soak in while lounging in a chaise or daybed. Get a group together and reserve the Grand Villa Bungalow or Villa, both on the 3rd floor rooftop pool deck. Each of the locations house up to 10 people, offer a refrigerator and a personal safe, a private bathroom and towel service. Don’t forget to enjoy a refreshing shower at the private outdoor shower area and sneak in a nap on the luxury daybed.

Let the air conditioning help you beat the heat while watching one of the five televisions located throughout the bungalow. A drink or two from the wet bar can help calm the summer heat as well.

The Villas have a fantastic view of Moorea as well as the Mandalay Bay Beach. There are cushioned chairs and side tables, three padded lounging chairs and a television, as well as ceiling fans and poolside Wi-Fi access. This area is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mandalay Bay Beach is situated on 11 acres and features man-made beaches, along with a 1.6 million gallon wave pool. The yearly Beach Concert Series runs May through September and guests can listen via inner tubes in the water or from the soft beach on blankets.

Lounging options range from cozy beach cabanas, featuring a high table with chairs, a love seat and three deck lounging chairs, to a larger premium rental such as the beach bungalows.

The seasonal beach, wave pool and lazy river are closed during the winter months. The pool area is open daily, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. There are lockers available for rent. They are $20 a day and if you pay with cash, there will be a refundable $10 key deposit. Bring your own inner tube for the Lazy River or purchase one upon arrival.

Recharge at the Beach Bar & Grill with some lunch and for a cold cocktail, beer or wine, check out one of the three bars.

Parking

If you don’t have the VIP Arrival Experience included with your stay, this rundown of parking processes will come in handy.

Parking fees can be charged to your room bill for convenience. Registered hotel guests are charged for a parking fee that comes in 24-hour increments. This applies to both self-parking and valet. Your room key gives you access to parking facilities until 11:59 p.m. on your checkout day.

Valet parking fees for a period ranging between 4 and 24 hours are listed as $26 on Mondays through Thursdays. Friday, Saturday and Sundays the cost is $30.

For self-parking, fees are $15 for a period of four to 24 hours, no matter the day of the week.

Delano VIP Arrival Experience adds on a variety of additional amenities not available for all guests. This elevated perk is only available for guests residing in suites.

There is roundtrip luxury transportation to and from the McCarran Airport for both arriving and departing flights. Early check-in time starts as early as 11 a.m. and late check-out time goes as late as 1 p.m.
