- Frequently Asked Questions About MGM Grand Las Vegas
History
Since December 1993, this casino has bookended the Strip at its Tropicana intersection. At the time of its launch, it was the largest hotel complex in the world, and remains the largest single hotel in the United States to this day. The MGM Grand is a fixture in Hollywood films, and even with the competition of T-Mobile arena just across the Las Vegas Strip, A-list talent is a constant presence at the MGM Garden arena.
Before the MGM Grand existed in its current form, it was a smaller hotel named the MGM Marina, a stone’s throw from McCarran International Airport, now the Harry Reid International Airport. This hotel closed in 1990, but its bones remain part of the MGM Grand today. The MGM Grand was initially conceived as a more family-friendly resort in the ’90s with a Wizard of Oz theme. Now operated by Blackstone and MGM Resorts International, with subsidiaries like Diaoyutai MGM in China, this massive hotel casino has since evolved.
Today, it is a luxurious complex that often hosts the world’s biggest stars at the MGM arena, invites flurries of nightclub-goers and A-list talent to the Hakkasan club every year, and allows for leisure and decadence in equal measure.
Calvin Harris and Tiësto have semi-permanent residencies at the Hakkasan club, and the famous illusionist David Copperfield calls this resort home as well. Family-friendly Jabbawockeez, the incredible Kà by Cirque Du Soleil and even a Hunger Games exhibition make a stay at MGM an immersive experience, and this is all before we even get to the amenities, which MGM Grand has many. This includes five outdoor pools, outdoor fun in the form of TopGolf and an impressive spa and fitness center.

The 3or 4 of us have been coming and staying at MGMGrand for at least 15 + years and we won’t stay anywhere else. The rooms are so spacious and love the bathroom. Plenty of space for 3 or 4 women and all our “stuff”. The casino is huge and we only do slots. We have our favorites and you can much of the time play for long time on machine- winning and losing and hopefully end up winning. If you don’t, what fun trying. The restaurants- so many choices. Our favorite is The Avenue for breakfast and Wolfgang Puck for dinner. However many of the others are very good as well. Unfortunately we don’t have unlimited means to be able eat at one of the top, expensive ones. Maybe one of us will hit it big and we will splurge. One can only dream. We may not have a lot of money to spend, but staying at MGM and being treated like we do is an incredible feeling. The Lazy River- how could I forget that. Love it love it. If u stay once at MGM Grand you will be back. We will be there April 16 and counting the days. Only three nights and just wish it could be longer. We go to other casinos for fun, but always come home to MGM. I only have one negative and it is not about “the Grand”,as we call it, but the fact all casinos are bringing more and more of those Chinese machines in and taking away a lot of favorites. Hard to even the plsy figure out and the payouts are lousy. Even on penny machine you have to start out at $.80. Almost a dollar. We always talk to people as we are playing or watching and surprised that many, many feel as we do. Maybe some of the many machines are made in China but they look very American and you can start out smaller amounts and work up. The Chinese machines look very Chinese. People play longer and spend more when they are winning decent amounts along the way. So see you soon MGM here’s hoping we have some good wins. Between, COVID, INFLATION, WAR IN UKRAINE, AND OUR LACK OF THE RIGHT LEADERSHIP, we all need something to look forward to. By the way we did stay at Bellagio and Venetian years back because of incredible deals, but we learned there is no place like MGM GRAND.
