Here are five betting picks to target for Wednesday's MLB slate
The 2021 MLB season is well underway, with 15 games on Wednesday’s schedule.
I’ll be going over my best bets for today’s matchups and provide reasoning for my picks.
We were 2-2 (-0.2 units) on Opening Day, so let’s try to rebound here. Unless specified, every play listed is risking one unit.

Cincinnati Reds (-210) vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (+190)
Best bet: Reds run line -1.5 (-108)
First pitch – 9:35 a.m. PST
While the money line still drastically favors Cincinnati, I still think the market is failing to account for how bad this Pirates team is.
The Reds have already scored 46 runs through five games, the most in baseball. They also have their ace, Luis Castillo, back on the mound.
Castillo owns a 2.64 ERA and 61/19 K/BB rate through 10 starts against the Pirates in his career.
Back the Reds to win by multiple runs on Wednesday.
Toronto Blue Jays (-190) vs. Texas Rangers (+172)
Best bet: Blue Jays run line -1.5 (-125)
First pitch – 11:05 a.m. PST
Another run line!
I think this is a premium spot to back the Blue Jays with Hyun-jin Ryu on the mound. The South Korean starter held a daunting Yankees’ lineup to two runs through 5 1/3 innings on Opening Day.
They also have their best relief options, Jordan Romano and Julian Merryweather, sitting on two days of rest.
Rangers starter Kyle Gibson did not fare nearly as well, surrendering five runs on four hits before being pulled in the first inning.
The Jays have a significant pitching edge here, which leads me to believe they can escape with a multi-run win.
Quick Hitters
- Atlanta Braves vs. Washington Nationals (Game 1) – over 6.5 runs (-115)
- Tampa Bay Rays vs. Boston Red Sox – under 9 runs (-115)
- Minnesota Twins vs. Detroit Tigers – Twins money line (-174) *2 UNIT PLAY*
Best of luck!
