Las Vegas has 16 Target locations across the valley, including one massive Target on the Strip. Locals and visitors alike rely on these stores for everything from baby food and groceries to high-end electronics.

Forgot something when packing for vacation? Pop into Target for your sunscreen, a new bathing suit—pool season is here—and a new book to read by the pool. Going out after work or a convention day? Stop by Target for a tinted lip balm, a cute clutch and some shiny bangle bracelets to make your outfit pop. Arrived for an important meeting but your box of office supplies didn’t make the plane? Target has printers, projectors and the stationery needed to finish your presentation perfectly.

You know that whatever you need, Target probably has it. However, did you know the secrets behind making the most of their large inventory and affordable prices?

These nine secrets of shopping at Target can help you get the most bang for your buck.

1. Download the Target App

Much like the website, the app will help you discover offers, sales, BOGO deals and the like. Even better, the app has special coupons exclusively for app users. You can also use the app to create a shopping list and scan UPC codes to find the best deals on items you already own – even when you are not in Target at the moment.

Need to refill a common product? Scan the UPC code from your Las Vegas hotel room and the app will tell you the price and closest location to pick it up. Use this same technology shopping elsewhere and compare prices.

You can also use the app to compare prices and inventory across stores. When searching for an item, the app will usually tell you if an item is available or ask you to choose another store. You can use the app to look at print ads as well, and choosing a different store may bring up a new set of print ads.

2. Check the Target website’s Current Promotions page

The Target Coupons, Promos & Deals page will list current promotions in approximately 10 to 15 categories and offer listings for in-store and online sales, Buy One Get One offers, offers that include a free gift card with purchase, clearance promotions, and more. The page will give you all the details needed to plan your purchases and give you expiration dates for each of the promotions.

3. Target has a fairly flexible return policy

Did you buy something at home and bring it on vacation to Las Vegas? Did you buy something in Las Vegas and need to return it at home? According to the company’s website, items carrying a private-label “Target Owned Brand” and items purchased using a Target RedCard have longer return windows than other items. You can also return some beauty, tech and pharmacy-related items with specific exceptions and rules.

According to the company website:

  • Target Owned Brand items: If you’re not satisfied with any Target Owned Brand item, return it within one year with a receipt for an exchange or a refund.
  • Target RedCard purchases: Target RedCard™ debit and credit card holders will receive an extra 30 days to return nearly all items purchased with their RedCard at Target and Target.com.
  • Holiday and limited-time-only collections: Items may have modified return policies.
  • Purchases at Optical, Pharmacy, Starbucks and Target Tech: Items must be returned or exchanged at these areas.
  • International purchases: Target stores cannot accept international returns or exchanges, including international returns and exchanges of online purchases

4. Target offers a RedCard credit card

You probably knew that most retailers of this size offer a credit card. Did you know that Target offers a RedCard debit card? Unlike most retailers, Target offers credit card benefits to debit card users. You get the same 5% additional discounts, same shipping offers, same additional return time, and same exclusives as a credit card holder, without opening another credit card.

With no annual fee for either card, your payment options are more varied and you save money across the board. Debit card users can connect their current checking accounts to receive all the benefits of the RedCard program and still shop like they would with their bank debit card — no credit balance and no interest fees. You can apply for the Target RedCards online.

5. Save Money

Whether you are here for business or pleasure, you want to save money for the good stuff: celebrity restaurants on the Las Vegas Strip, tourist museums and attractions, and, of course, a little gambling.

So save money when you shop at Target by stacking those coupons. Target Stores will allow you to use multiple coupons to bring down your total price.

According to Target’s website, “one manufacturer coupon (paper or digital), one Target coupon (paper or digital), and one Target Circle offer can be combined” for each item you are purchasing. That’s right, each item. Do your homework and shop prepared and watch that total drop at the register.

6. You can trade in old items

Be honest, how many tech gadgets do you have—and how many charging cables does one person need? You can trade in unused or rarely used technology items at Target Stores for a Target gift card.

After filling out the necessary information online about the type of product, age, condition and other details, Target will offer a trade-in value to be sent to you via Target gift card. Target will provide to you a shipping label after their offer has been accepted and send to you the gift card once your items are received and accepted as described.

7. Know their clearance schedule

Yes, there is a schedule. While each store can be a little different, it is generally accepted that most stores follow the same discount schedule.

  • Monday: children’s clothing and electronics
  • Tuesday: women’s clothing, groceries and home essentials
  • Wednesday: men’s clothing, furniture and health and beauty
  • Thursday: decor, shoes, toys* and housewares
  • Friday: auto, hardware and cosmetics

You’ll notice an asterisk on toys in the above list. Toys are famously on sale only twice a year. Obviously, grab anything that speaks to you when you can get the deals—and are confident reading the clearance tags. If you want current, trending toys it is worth noting that Target is famous for its semi-annual toy sales in January after the winter gift holidays, and in July—just in time for Christmas in July.

In addition to the regular discount schedule, Target Stores will discount holiday items the day after a major holiday. Christmas-related products are on sale on December 26, for example.

8. Read the clearance tags

Now that you have an idea of the discount schedule, learn to read clearance tags. Both red and yellow clearance tags will tell you all you need to know about the current, previous or original price, and even upcoming low price opportunities.

  • The current price will be the largest, clearest number on the tag, labeled “NOW”
  • The original or previous price will be in smaller type, set to the left, labeled “WAS”
  • The current percentage discount will be in even smaller type at the top right of the clearance tag. It is a number without any labeling or other markings, such as 20, 30, 50, 70 or 90

If the discount percentage is under 70, there is a good chance the item will be on sale again within a few days to a few weeks. Depending on the holiday or general clearance schedule, most items in the mark-down program will get marked down to as much as 70 percent. A few will go to 90 percent before Target processes them through their salvage program which may include recycling, donating, or other redistribution channels as may be appropriate.

9. Target Delivers

a Target location that is similar to Target on the Strip in Henderson, Nevada

Staying on the Las Vegas Strip but too far away hit the Target on Las Vegas Boulevard? Staying off the Strip and don’t have a car? Have it delivered.

Target offers same-day delivery through a partnership with Shipt. While you may not have access to everything you want and you cannot use coupons or other discounts, you can get a personal shopper who will do both the shopping and the delivery.

Need something specific but don’t see it on the Shipt app? You can add a line item for a special request, and the shopper can look around the store for you. The app makes it easy to communicate with the shopper to get exactly what you need. Don’t forget to use your Target RedCard debit card or Target RedCard Mastercard to pay for your order to get additional Target benefits as allowed.
