Music buffs can all agree — Michael Jackson was a trailblazer in music, dance and fashion. Despite his controversies, his work and legacy remain timeless across the industries he dominated. That extends into the tribute Cirque show that honors him in a huge, show-stopping way.
Producer Jamie King is something of an MJ aficionado, having also produced Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour. This 90-minute adventure takes the audience through a contemporary journey full of
An air of mystery surrounds the pre-show. Watch as red-cloaked actors move through the rows, flashing lights at the audience, to shadow the “famous” as paparazzi.
The show is composed of 13 mini-acts, each one set to the beat of one of Michael’s famous hits. Once the vignettes start, follow four colorful mavericks as they move through MJ’s chart-topping songs. Trampolines, swirly pole dance routines and tons of athletic moves dominate the stage. Even the walls illuminate the avant-garde imagery that’s associated with Michael Jackson’s late-career style.
The cast moves through the audience at several points in the show, so don’t train your eyes to the stage alone. Don’t forget to look up to catch Ngame, or Mother Moon, bless the crowd with her gossamer good looks and magical aura.
ONE also doesn’t shy away from Michael’s more serious hits. The show streams “They Don’t Care About Us” and “Man in the Mirror,” two songs that made waves for their hard-hitting lyrics and some political implications.
Watch for: The one-legged breakdancer. Jean Sok is the twisting, popping-and-locking genius that wows audiences with his moves show after show.
Ten Years of The King of Pop
This high-action Cirque show recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary on the Las Vegas Strip in a spectacular way — because what’s more spectacular than a pop-up dancing flash mob in the Mandalay Bay lobby?
Michael Jackson and Las Vegas
Michael had an interesting relationship with Las Vegas. His most notable appearance was with his childhood group, the Jackson Five in 1974 and 1994. His 70’s performances took place at the former Bally’s Las Vegas — now Horseshoe Las Vegas — and he reemerged in 1994 during a fleeting appearance for a Jackson Family Honors TV special.
Despite his appearances, he never performed solo there throughout his entire career. No residencies or appearances can be found. His only involvement with the city proper was recording sessions inside The Palms and other Vegas Strip hotels.
His home, which he rented for a whopping $50k a month, recently sold for $9.5 million in 2022.
